Rule Breaker!

I don't know about you peeps, but I've started doing multiple submissions, even with publications that say not to (especially when the response times are so varied). Apparently the average story is rejected 20 times before it is accepted (can't remember what litzine I read that on). I have a hard time waiting years for them.

Thoughts?

I'm sure many people do it without admitting to it. Don't think you'll have a problem unless you're accepted by more than one place. If that happens, it's a good thing technically, but I think I'd feel a little guilty for breaking the supposed rules. Also it might suck if you get accepted by your fifth choice, for instance, and the jury is still out on your first choice mag.

Um, but I'd say as long as you're doing it, just remember that if you accept publication somewhere, contact the others you submitted to and let them know you're withdrawing. Want to at least do the best you can to remain polite in case you find yourself submitting to them again and all of that.

Yeah, some places even have online submission withdrawal (sounds like some kind of BDSM fetish) buttons or forms built in. Most people understand. But you gotta let them know ASAP once you're accepted elsewhere. Put yourself in their shoes; you think you've got this great ish lined up, and then you're favorite story gets yanked out from under you.

I'm currently 0/5 on my latest (shorts) submission campaign, average about 6 weeks response.

I feel you, Flash (only 14 more rejections to go!), and yes, I'm polite about withdrawal notices.
